Module 4: Brain Injury and Abuse

In this module you will improve your understanding of how the brain works and what happens when it is injured, identify the connection between Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and abuse, learn how to screen someone for a TBI, and improve knowledge of how to work with someone who has had a brain injury. Because of the unique connection between brain injury and abuse, this module is a bit longer than other modules. Thus it is broken down into two parts. In part one you will learn about what brain injury is. In part two you will learn about the connection between abuse and traumatic brain injury. We encourage you to take a break between part one and part two!

The content of Module 4 was developed by Anne McDonnell, Executive Director of the Brain Injury Association of Virginia.
